The Eastern Florida State College softball team came up with the big hit to send the College of Central Florida home in the FCSAA Region 8 Tournament on Friday morning.
The No. 7 seed Titans won their second straight game in the tournament behind a McKenzie Jewell home run in the top of the 10th inning, giving Eastern Florida State College a 5-4 victory. It was Jewell's fourth home run of the season and second game-winner.
Eastern Florida State College once again got things going fast as Jewell hit a double down the right field line, scoring two runs. Jewell would later score on a sacrifice fly from Madison Ford.
It would remain 3-0 until the Patriots scored in the fourth inning. Up 3-1, the Titans would add a run in the sixth inning as Marisa Shoudt had an RBI single.
With one out in the bottom of the seventh inning, the College of Central Florida would tie the game as Leah Clark hit a three-run home run.
Luci Walters came in and finished the seventh inning and tossed the next three scoreless innings to pick up the win in relief. Brooke Theisen, Jewell and Samantha Clark each had two hits in the win.
Eastern Florida State College will play the winner of the Florida SouthWestern and Gulf Coast State College at 7 p.m. for a spot in Saturday's NJCAA South Atlantic District B Championship Game.
The College of Central Florida, who was ranked No. 9 coming into the tournament, was eliminated with the loss.
