Softball team defeats Santa Fe to advance at Region 8 Tournament

The Eastern Florida State College softball team picked up its first win in an FCSAA Region 8 Tournament since 2018 on Thursday afternoon in Clearwater.
The Titans defeated Santa Fe College 5-2 to advance to Day 3 of the tournament with the victory. Eastern Florida State College will play the College of Central Florida at 10 a.m. on Friday.
Starting pitcher Luci Walters tossed six-plus innings, allowing two runs with a strikeout for the victory. Alanna O'Brien came in and got the final out to lock up the win.
Kyla Leppin got things started in the top of the first inning with a hit up the middle for two runs. Leppin would hit an RBI double in the fifth and then later in the inning Marisa Shoudt blasted a ball over the wall but missed home plate, scoring two runners.
Up 5-1, Santa Fe would add a run in the bottom of the seventh inning, but it was not enough as the Titans prevailed.
Leppin was 2-for-4 with three RBI while Jenna Borkey and Brooke Theisen also had two hits in the win.
Eastern Florida State College is now 38-24 this season.
