Softball team goes 2-0 at JUCO Kickoff in Clearwater
The Eastern Florida State College softball team opened the season with a pair of wins at the JUCO Kickoff in Clearwater on Saturday.
The Titans opened the regular season with a victory over Gulf Coast State College 8-5 and then posted the shutout against Pasco-Hernando State College.
Tied 1-1 after the first inning, Brooke Theisen drove in Faith Campos who had doubled in the second inning to give the Titans the lead. Theisen would hit a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning, scoring Gracie Snell who had doubled and stole third.
Up 3-1, the Titans put five runs on the board in the top of the seventh, but Gulf Coast State College made it interesting in the bottom of the seventh inning, scoring four times.
Theisen went 2-for-2 with three RBI while Campos and Jenna Borkey each had two hits in the win. Luci Walters picked up her first win for the Titans.
In Game 2, McKenzie Jewell pitched seven shutout innings, allowing five hits and struck out five for her first win of the season.
The Titans broke through in the third inning as Snell hit a sacrifice fly deep to left field, scoring Campos.
Then in the sixth inning they would score three more times to put the game away.
Theisen, Borkey, Snell and Livie Davis each drove in runs and Davis had two of the Titans six hits in the game, including a triple.
Eastern Florida State College (2-0) will travel to Lake Sumter State College for a doubleheader on Thursday beginning at 1 p.m. The home opener will be Saturday at 1 p.m. against South Florida State College.
