Softball team wraps up season, honors sophomores

The Eastern Florida State College softball team battled to the final out in both ends of a doubleheader with Miami Dade Saturday at Titan Softball Complex.

The Titans fell short in both rallies, falling 4-2 in the first game and 14-10 in the second game as Eastern Florida State College's season ends.

In Game 1 Miami Dade jumped out to the lead in the second inning, using a couple of walks and a couple of errors to score four times.

The Titans got one run back as Alyssa Agrippa hit her third home run – a shot to center field to make it 4-1. The Titans would score again in the fourth inning as Molly Reid drove in Olivia Rivera to make it 4-2 but the Titans would leave the bases loaded.

Starting pitcher Gabriela Garcia kept Miami Dade at bay the rest of the way, striking out four and not allowing an earned run in the loss.

The offenses got going in Game 2 as Miami Dade scored three times in the top of the first inning, but the Titans would strike for four runs in the bottom of the first highlighted by Agrippa's three-run double.

The Titans would add three more in the second inning to take a 7-3 lead. But Miami Dade scored three times in the top of the third inning to cut the lead to 7-6.

Miami Dade would tie it briefly in the fourth inning, but the Titans would get the lead back once again, scoring three times highlighted once again by Agrippa. The first baseman ripped a two-run single to make it 10-7 Titans.

Miami Dade would score runs in the fifth and sixth innings to make it 10-9. Then in the top of the seventh, the Sharks would bat around and score five times to take the lead.

The Titans would threaten in the bottom of the seventh inning, but a Miami Dade double play would end the threat.

Eastern Florida State College ends the season 18-24 overall and 1-13 in the conference.

After the game, the Titans recognized three sophomores who will be moving on – Madison Neuhaus, Kayla Domon and Lauren Lightbody.
