Softball team loses pair to Indian River State College

The Eastern Florida State College softball team lost both ends of a doubleheader against No. 11 Indian River State College Wednesday at Titan Softball Complex.
The Titans lost Game 1 6-3 and Game 2 10-7 in the Southern Conference opener.
Indian River State College broke open a close game in the top of the fifth inning as the Pioneers scored four times in the inning.
Down 6-0, the Titans would get on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning as Lauren Lightbody drove in Gabriela Garcia with an RBI single. The Titans added a run in the sixth as Meritxell Blesa drove in Roneice Pharoah to make it 6-2. In the bttom of the seventh inning, the Titans tacked on one last run with an RBI double by Kayla Domon.
Lightbody finished with three hits and Domon had two in the game. Starting pitcher Trinity Howard struck out three in a complete-game loss.
In Game 2, Indian River State College sent eight players to the plate in the first inning, scoring three times. Daija Torchia hit an inside-the-park home run in the fourth to make it 5-0 and in the fifth Macie Stanfield hit a to-run home run to make it 7-0.
But the Titans would battle back in the bottom of the fifth inning as Kaitlyn Wilson hit a two-run single with the bases loaded and then two more scored on Meritxell Blesa's triple to cut lead to 7-4.
The Pioneers would add three runs in the top of the sixth inning as walks hurt the Titans. But the Titans would bounce back with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to make it 10-7. The Titans would threaten in the seventh but could not get any closer, falling to 0-2 in the conference.
Domon finished with three hits and Wilson drove in three runs.
Eastern Florida State College will travel to Miami to play Miami Dade Friday in a conference doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
