Gulf Coast State College
The Eastern Florida State College softball team opened the spring season with a pair of wins at the JUCO Kickoff at Eddie C. Moore Complex in Clearwater.
The Titans began the day with a 7-6 win over Gulf Coast State College as Madison Neuhaus hit two home runs including one in her first at-bat in the second inning and Shaniya Pope followed with her first of the season.
It looked like Gulf Coast would tie the game in the third inning but Roneice Pharoah robbed a home run in left field
Neuhaus and Gabriela Garcia each had two hits and Neuhaus drove in four runs.
Trinity Howard picked up the win, pitching the complete game and struck out seven.
In Game 2, the Titans blasted Georgia Military 11-0 in five innings. Once again Neuhaus provided the power, hitting a solo home run.
Olivia Rivera hit a grand slam in a six-run fourth inning. Pope picked up her first win on the mound, going all five innings and allowing two hits and struck out three.
The Titans will play three games on Saturday, opening at 11 a.m. against the State College of Florida Manatee. The softball team will play Georgia Highlands College at 4 p.m. and wrap up the day against No. 1 Florida Southwestern at 6:30 p.m.
