Six baseball players recognized by Citrus Conference
Six members of the Eastern Florida State College baseball team were honored with postseason awards on Thursday.
Starting pitcher Kenneth Robinson was named to the all-Citrus Conference first team while reliever Anthony Cordero, outfielders Kevin Smith and Laheim Bell made the second team. Carlos Cordero and Hector Mangual were both named to the all-defensive team.
Robinson started 12 games for the Titans and was 6-4 with a 2.69 ERA with four complete games and a shutout. The 2.69 ERA was third in Region 8 this season and the freshman from Tampa struck out 65 hitters in 70 1/3 innings and also had a save.
Cordero made 21 appearances for the Titans this season and had a team-leading eight saves. The sophomore from Vero Beach finished with a 2.19 ERA and struck out 48 hitters in 37 innings, walking just nine.
Smith started in centerfield for the Titans and hit .346 in 46 games this season. The freshman from St. Lucie had six doubles, three triples and a home run, driving in 24 and scored 26 runs. Smith stole 18 bases this season.
Bell played in 42 games and hit .349 this season with eight doubles, two triples and a home run. The sophomore from Vero Beach scored 24 runs and drove in 28 runs.
Cordero and Mangual were both named to the All-Defensive team.
Cordero started 50 games this season and just had three errors and had 75 putouts and 82 assists as the sophomore from Kissimmee had a .981 fielding percentage. Mangual played shortstop for the Titans and made just four saves and 57 putouts and had 85 assists. He finished with a .973 fielding percentage in 42 games this season.
Eastern Florida State College finished the season 25-24-1 overall.
