Indian River State College
The Eastern Florida State College baseball team played some great defense Friday afternoon but fell short to Indian River State College at Bruce Bochy Field.
The Titans fell to 3-2-1 on the season with the 4-2 loss to the Pioneers.
Eastern Florida State College made several really nice defensive plays including a Hector Mangual lunging catch at shortstop and a perfect relay throw from Kevin Smith at the wall in centerfield to Mangual to catcher Luke Lambert to throw out Matt Lashley at home in the sixth inning.
Indian River State College would get on the board first in the third inning on a Raul Felix RBI double. The Pioneers would add two more in the fourth inning and lead 3-0.
The Titans would get one back in the bottom of the fourth inning as they had four straight singles, the last one a Brady Strelitz single scoring Adrian Dominguez who led off with a single. Indian River would turn a double play to help get out of the jam and hold the Titans to one run.
The Titans cut the lead to 3-2 as Kevin Smith reached on an error, stole second and scored on a Luke Lambert groundout.
Eastern Florida State walked eight Pioneers in the game.
Evimael Quiles went five innings, allowing three runs and taking the loss. Ryan Cerrone and Strelitz each had two hits in the game.
Eastern Florida State College will be back at home Saturday against Atlantis University at 1 p.m. Admission is free to Bruce Bochy Field.
