Baseball team opens conference season Thursday afternoon at home
The Eastern Florida State College baseball team will open the Citrus Conference season Thursday at Bruce Bochy Field.
The Titans will begin the conference season against Hillsborough Community College with the three-game series beginning at 2 p.m. at Bruce Bochy Field with a doubleheader Friday at Hillsborough Community College.
Eastern Florida State College comes into the series 7-4-1 on the season and is hitting .316 as a team which is tied for seventh in Region 8. The team has hit 28 doubles this season which is third in the state.
The teams are two of the top six teams in the state in stolen bases as Hillsborough's Toma Faulkner is tied for third in the state with eight, while Carlos Cordero and Kevin Smith each have seven to lead Eastern Florida State College.
"Hillsborough is a quality team from top to bottom, their bats play really well and the pitchers throw strikes, they compete. It is going to be a fun Game 1," Eastern Florida State College baseball coach Steven Brown said.
Jesus Portillo will take the mound for the Titans Thursday and is 2-0 in three starts with a 3.46 ERA. Eastern Florida State College is fourth in team ERA, coming into the Citrus Conference season with a 3.82 ERA.
Thursday's game will begin at 2 p.m. and admission is free to games at Bruce Bochy Field. Fans can also watch the game live online at the EFSC Titans YouTube page.
