Baseball team tied for second in conference heading into weekend
The Eastern Florida State College baseball team enters the weekend in a three-way tie for second place in the Southern Conference.
The Titans are tied with Indian River State College and South Florida State College for second place and a spot in the state tournament with five games remaining in the conference season.
Eastern Florida State College will travel to first-place Miami Dade College for afternoon games on Friday and Saturday. The Titans handed the Sharks their second conference loss of the season on Wednesday in extra innings.
On Friday afternoon the Titans will send Brian Walters to the mound. The freshman is 3-2 this season in 12 appearances and has made nine starts with a 3.76 ERA. The right-hander has struck out 44 hitters in 40.2 innings.
The Titans are 5-2 in the past seven games and are averaging six runs per game during the seven-game span. Miami Dade is 14-2 in the conference and has already wrapped up the conference title and a spot in the postseason.
The final week of the conference season will see the Titans play at Indian River State College on Wednesday afternoon at Lawnwood Sports Complex, then host South Florida State College on Friday at 5 p.m. before wrapping up the conference season back down in Miami Saturday, April 30 for a 1 p.m. game with the Sharks.
The top two teams will advance to the FCSAA State/NJCAA South Atlantic District Tournament which begins May 6.
