Errors Doom Titans in Loss to Broward
Less than 24 hours after scoring a 2-1 victory over Broward College, Eastern Florida's baseball team lost 9-8 to Broward on Saturday in Davie.
The Titans outhit Broward 11 to seven but allowed seven unearned runs, committing six errors.
"It was a tough day for the defense," said Titans head coach Jeff Tam.
Broward had five errors.
Chase Evans took the loss for the Titans who fell to 13-8 in the FCSAA Southern Conference and 28-13 overall.
Broward improved to 13-11 and 26-19.
Vinny Capra went 5-for-5 for the Titans with a triple and three runs batted in. Manny Rodriguez went 3-for-5.
The Titans remain in first place in the conference, a half-game ahead of Miami Dade College, which is 13-9, and they face a crucial week.
Eastern Florida visits conference foe Indian River State (5-17) at 4 p.m. Tuesday in Fort Pierce and plays the Pioneers twice at home on Wednesday, completing a suspended game at 4 p.m. and playing the scheduled game at 6. They travel to Kendall for a 3 p.m. Friday showdown with Miami Dade and then host the Sharks at 1 p.m. Saturday.
The Titans close the regular season by visiting Palm Beach State (12-11) on April 19 and hosting the Panthers on April 20.
The conference's top two finishers qualify for the NJCAA Gulf District/FCSAA Tournament in Lakeland in May while the third-place finishers plays a play-in game.
