Men's cross country team places fifth in EFSC Classic

The Eastern Florida State College men's cross country team made their debut Saturday with a fifth-place finish at the EFSC Classic on the Melbourne campus.

Following the women's race, the men lined up at Bruce Bochy Field and took off in a race that saw Embry-Riddle and Florida Southern runners battle for the top spot.

Among the lead group was Eastern Florida State College runner Dayton Law who remained among the top 10 throughout the race, placing eighth overall in his first collegiate race.

The Satellite High graduate finished with a time of 26 minutes, 13 seconds in the 8K race.

"I was very excited for this meet, being at home I knew there would be a lot of support from people that I know and I knew there would be some good schools here competing," Law said. "It was a lot faster than I thought it would be, but that gets me excited. It was a good course, it had rained the past couple of days so I was nervous but it was good. It is a good spectator course, every lap I saw people cheering us on."

Teammate Josh Ingalls placed 29th overall, finishing with a time of 27:36.3 and Charlie Dickinson was 39th, finishing the race in 28:22.3. Ethan Heise ran the race in 30:50.1, while Anthony Bergnes finished in 30:57.1 while Samuel Addington finished in 35:44.9 and Nolen Genna ran a 35:47.8.

Embry-Riddle's Paul Kraemer won the men's race with a time of 25:37.2 while his teammates finished third and fourth overall. Florida Southern's Owen Allen placed second in 25:40.8. Each of the top four runners finished in under 26 minutes.

The men's cross country team will travel to Huntsville, Alabama on Friday to compete in the Southern Showcase.
