Men's cross country team fares well at Southern Showcase

The Eastern Florida State College men's cross country team placed 23rd overall in the Southern Showcase Friday morning in Huntsville, Alabama.

The Titans, who are ranked 19th in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country NJCAA Division I national poll, were led by sophomore Dayton Law who finished the 8K race in 26 minutes, 25.2 seconds at John Hunt Park.

Teammate Simon DeVoss finished in 27:06.0 with Carter Vigneri (27:15), Gabriel Garcia (27:34.6) Trevor Cross (27:46.5) and Anthony Bergnes (27:52.5) right behind him. Ethan Heise finished the race in 29:51.7

"Dayton being back really helps, ran well and isn't feeling anything from injury so that is good," Eastern Florida State College men's cross country coach Doug Butler said. "Carter was the MVP today, he has only been running a couple of years and ran really well to finish third on our team today. We can be better and I expect us to be better by districts."

Ole Miss won the event with Auburn, Alabama, Kentucky and Middle Tennessee State rounding out the top five.

Eastern Florida State College will compete in the FSU Invite on Sept. 29 in Tallahassee.
