Women's volleyball team knocks off No. 10 Daytona State

The Eastern Florida State College volleyball team knocked off No. 10 Daytona State College Friday evening at Titan Field House.

The Titans picked up the five-set win 25-23, 25-17, 24-26, 13-25, 15-10.

Eastern Florida State College came out strong from the start, leading the first set early but Daytona State College came back to tie things up 23-23. But the Titans would win the next two points to take the first set. The second set saw the Titans go on a run in the middle of the set to take the set 25-17.

The third set saw the Titans up 13-11, but Daytona State would score four straight to take the lead. The Titans would tie it 20-20 but Daytona State would hang on to force a fourth set.

The fourth set was all Falcons, picking up the 25-13 win to force a fifth set.

But the Titans continued to battle the No. 10 team in the NJCAA Division I poll, coming back from an 8-6 deficit to take a 9-8 lead and up 11-10 the Titans would score the final four points to pick up the win.

"Extremely proud of my team for rallying back tonight and fighting hard for the win," Eastern Florida State College volleyball coach Carmelo Eleutiza said. "After a rough loss last night, I was worried what our mindset would be tonight. But they showed me they are fighters and each day is a new day! Beyond proud of each one of them. It was a full team effort."

Maredis Colon finished with 12 kills, 17 digs and two aces while Cassandra Gregory had 11 kills, nine assists and eight digs. Anaeli Perea finished with 20 digs, Charlette Ayala had six blocks and Amanda Cruz had 30 assists with seven digs in the win.

The Titans, who improved to 5-4 on the season, will host Palm Beach State College Tuesday night at Titan Field House. Fans are welcome to home events but limited to the first 75 fans. Masks must be worn at all times on campus and social distancing is required.
