Volleyball team sweeps No. 14 Monroe College

Volleyball team sweeps No. 14 Monroe College

The Eastern Florida State College women's volleyball team swept No. 14 Monroe College Tuesday night at Titan Field House on the Melbourne campus.

The Titans picked up their second win of the season, winning 25-14, 25-12 and 25-19 to pick up one of their best wins of the past few years.

The Titans came out fast as Sofia Kamke opened with a couple of kills and an ace as the Titans led 6-2 and reached as much as a double-digit lead late as Kamke and Dominae Jordan led the attack.

The second set was all Titans as Kamke served six straight points including an ace as the Titans jumped out to a 7-0 lead and once again took a double-digit lead, leading 15-5. The Titans would cruise to a 25-12 win to take a 2-0 lead.

The third set saw Monroe College take their first lead of the match, leading 5-2 but Jordan had three kills to tie the match 7-7 and then led 11-8 on a Kamke kill before Monroe College took the lead once again 12-11. But Flavia Romanelli had a kill and Juliana De Acharan had an ace to give the Titans the lead for good.

Jordan finished with 13 kills while Kamke and Romanelli each had nine kills. De Acharan finished with 34 assists.

The Titans are now 2-0 and will travel to Daytona State College for a 4 p.m. match against USC Sumter. Then Eastern Florida State College will travel to Arizona this weekend to play in the AWC Chapman Auto Invitational.
