The Eastern Florida State College women's volleyball team defeated Lake Sumter in five sets in a Mid-Florida Conference match Thursday night at Titan Field House.
The Titans won 26-24, 14-25, 25-20, 22-25, 15-10 on Sophomore Night, improving to 10-8 overall and 2-4 in the conference and giving them the inside track to a spot in the postseason.
"I think that we worked really hard in the first set and did well but you could see our confidence falter in the second set," Eastern Florida State College women's volleyball coach Andrea Rasmussen said. "We were just too error prone in the second set and Lake Sumter is a good team."
The Titans bounced back in a big way in the third set, going on a 10-1 run to lead 21-10 before Lake Sumter battled back a bit but the Titans prevailed 25-20.
Lake Sumter would jump out to an early 12-8 lead and while the Titans were able to tie the match 20-20 Lake Sumter would force the fifth set.
The Titans took a 12-5 lead behind Rachael Gunn's serving and picked up the win, snapping a five-match losing streak.
The sophomores led the way as Kylie Hurst finished with 18 kills while Danee Smith and Gunn each had eight.
The Titans will travel to Daytona State on Tuesday night for a conference match beginning at 7 p.m.
