
Softball team opens conference season on the road Tuesday
The Eastern Florida State College softball team will open the Citrus Conference Tuesday on the road.
The Titans, who are ranked fourth in the NJCAA Region 8 Coaches Poll, will travel to Indian River State College for a doubleheader to open the conference season. Eastern Florida State College is off to it's best start in program history, heading into the doubleheader 15-1 on the season and have won seven straight.
The game will feature two of the top running teams in the state as Indian River State College has stolen 79 bases while the Titans have stolen 71.
Eastern Florida State College is leading Region 8 in batting average, hitting .434 as a team through 16 games led by the duo of Jenna Borkey and Livie Davis who are hitting .563 and 561 respectively. Borkey already has 21 stolen bases this season which is second in Region 8. On the mound, the Titans are second in Region 8 in ERA with a 1.81 ERA through 16 games. Hannah Strickland is second in ERA with a 1.04 ERA in six games, starting three times for the Titans.
Indian River State College comes into the conference season 12-1 and has won five straight. The Pioneers are hitting .354 as a team and has six starters hitting over .400. Adrianna Portanova leads the team, hitting .455 this season and has stolen 17 bases this season.
Tuesday's doubleheader at Indian River State College will begin at 4 p.m.
Tuesday will begin a busy week for the Titans who will host Santa Fe Thursday beginning at 2 p.m. and then travel to the College of Central Florida on Saturday.
