Ttians Suffer Sweep at Home
Eastern Florioda' softball team dropped a doubleheader to non-conference foe Hillsborough Community College on Friday on the Palm Bay Campus.
The Titans fell to 21-23 overall with the 8-4 and 4-3 defeats. Hillsborough improved to 22-30.
Although the Titans have one more home doubleheader remaining – Tuesday against FCSAA Southern Conference leading Indian River State - they designated Friday as Sophomore Day.
The Titans are second in the conference with a 9-7 record. Indian River is 12-0 having beaten the Titans three times by one run.
Recognized Friday were sophomores Taylor Zitiello, Mackenzie Soughers, Rosie Lyard, Alexa Snyder, Hannah Roberts, Natasha Kistler, Tamara Warren, Sarah Hart, Carly Nicholas and Katie Darrah.
Lyard, from Quebec, Canada was given special recognition before the game as teammates held up a Canadian flag during the nation's national anthem.
Karli Smith took the loss for the Titans in the first game. She went 3-for-4 at the plate with a run batted in. Zitiello was 2-for-4.
Hart took the loss in the second game. She was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Kistler was 1-for-4 with a double.
Tuesday's 4 and 6 p.m. games against Indian River also are expected to be the final ones played at the Palm Bay field, which the Titans have called home since at least the 1990s.
The program is moving to a new complex on the Melbourne Campus.
