Men's tennis team opens spring season at home Thursday
The Eastern Florida State College men's tennis team will open the spring season Thursday at Titans Tennis Center on the Melbourne campus.
The Titans will host Gustavus Adolphus at 11 a.m. Gustavus Adolphus is ranked No. 17 in the NCAA Division III ITA preseason national poll.
Eastern Florida State College has four players the enter the season ranked in the top 15 in the NJCAA singles rankings. Freshman Eric Tripathi is ranked No. 9 with Jett Leong is No. 12 and Jack Dixon is 13th. The doubles team of Lucas Gonzalez and Dixon are coming off a strong fall season and are No. 5 in the national doubles rankings.
Three players are returning from the team that placed seventh in the NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament last spring. Gonzalez, George Myers-Millington and Enric Procar played in the national tournament last season and bring that experience to the Titans this season. Gonzalez was named to the JUCO All-America team last season.
Gustavus Adolphus is 2-2 this season and comes into the matchup with two doubes teams ranked in the top 20 in NCAA Division III and two singles players in the top 40. The duo of Gage Gohl and Drew Elofson are ranked 13th, while Alex Budde and Daniel Fouchier are 17th. In singled, Marco Siviero is 15th and Jack Bergmeyer is ranked 37th.
