Men's tennis team has big day at ITA Regionals

The Eastern Florida State College men's tennis team is well represented in the final day of the ITA Regionals in Tifton, Georgia.

The Titans have three singles players in the semifinals and one doubles team in the finals of the event.

Jack Dixon knocked off the No. 1 seed Hugo Car in the quarterfinals by winning the tiebreaker 10-6 after splitting the first two sets. Dixon lost the first set 7-6(8-6) and then won the second set 6-2 to force the tiebreaker.

He will face ABAC's Safar Rasulov who beat the No. 3 seed in a tiebreaker, 10-5. That will be one semifinal at 8:30 a.m.

No. 2 seed Eric Tripathi continued to play well as the freshman defeated No. 7 Ryan Wang 6-0, 6-3 to advance to the semifinals.

He will play teammate Jett Leong as the No. 5 seed defeated No. 4 Lennert Lemahieu 10-1 in the tiebreaker. After losing the first set 6-4, Leong won the second set 7-5 to force the tiebreaker.

The Titans will face off for a spot in the final at 8:30 a.m.

In doubles action, the duo of Lucas Gonzalez and Dixon defeated Ryan Wang and Alexandre Jaulin 8-6 to advance to the final. The No. 1 seed will play ABAC's Aymen Alimoussa and Safar Rasulov for the title Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

Alimoussa and Rasulov defeated Eastern Florida State College's George Myers-Millington and Eric Tripathi in the semifinals.

The singles final will be at 12:30 p.m. The winners of Sunday's ITA JUCO Southeast Regional Tournament will advance to the ITA Cup Oct. 13-16 in Rome, Georgia.
