Men's tennis team fares well in first day at ITA Regionals
The Eastern Florida State College men's tennis team had a good first day Friday at the ITA Regionals in Tifton, Georgia.
Four players advanced to the round of 16 in singles matches with wins on Friday, while two doubles teams have advanced to the quarterfinals.
No. 2 seed Eric Tripathi defeated Benjamin Ranby-Al 6-3, 6-2 and will play Hugo Blasco at 8:30 a.m. Saturday after Blasco advanced 6-0, 6-0.
No. 5 seed Jett Leong defeated Santiago Castillo 6-0, 6-1 and will play Mario Molina at 8:30 a.m.
Colin Tavares beat Muntingh Hamman 7-5, 6-0 to advance to the round of 16 where he will face No. 6 seed Safar Rasulov at 8:30 a.m.
Jack Dixon defeated Antoine Schaub 6-0, 7-6(7-2) to advance to the round of 16 against Noah Brown Saturday morning.
The No. 1 doubles team of Lucas Gonzalez and Jack Dixon advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating Guido Loayza and Santiago Castillo 8-4. Gonzalez and Dixon will play Benjamin Ranby-Al and Matthew Rodgers Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
The team of Myers-Millington and Tripathi defeated Noah Burton and Antoine Schaub 8-6 and will play the No. 2 seed Sebastian Gamez and Lennert Lemahieu at 3:30 p.m. in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
Enric Porcar lost to No. 7 seed Ryan Wang in a singles match and then Porcar and Tavares fell to Wang and Alexandre Jaulin in doubles.
