Women's golf team in eighth at national tournament

The Eastern Florida State College women's golf team is in eighth place after two rounds at the NJCAA Division I National Tournament at Duran Golf Club in Viera.

The Titans shot a 324 in the second round and are seven strokes behind Dodge City in the standings halfway through the tournament.

Daytona State College shot its second straight round under par with a 4-under 288 to lead the tournament at 8-under par.

Sophomore Gracie Doke led the Titans, shooting a 2-over 75 in the second round. Starting on the back nine Tuesday, Doke birdied the first two holes and made the turn at even par. The Tulsa, Oklahoma native would make two more birdies on No. 3 and 4 but struggled on the final three holes of the day to finish with the 75.

"She played solid for the first 15 holes and had the hiccup coming in but that was more like how Gracie can play and she just needs to finish it through," Eastern Florida State College women's golf coach Jamie Howell said.

Teammate Jaida Furlow shot an 82 while Brittany Odic had an 83 and Emma Parker finished with an 84. Jenna Barnett had an 89.

"We have had two really marginal rounds, not a lot of really good play and some mistakes here and there and at the same time not that far off, we have these flashes but that is the problem we have stretches of good golf and then some stretches of not so good golf. We just have to clean it up," Howell said.

Eastern Florida State College will tee off at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday for the third round at Duran Golf Club.
