Eastern Florida State College held a celebration Monday night for the women's soccer team who won the 2021 NJCAA Division I National Championship title.

The Titans defeated Tyler Junior College 1-0 in the championship game to claim their first women's soccer national championship and first title since the men's golf team won a national title in 1991.

"What we have going on at this college is teamwork. Tremendous amounts of teamwork, in this instance we start with phenomenal student athletes and that is what you are. You make us all proud so congratulations on all that you have done – great job," Eastern Florida State College President Dr. James Richey said during the celebration. "Adding to the phenomenal student athletes, we have the coaches. Some of the best coaches in the country are sitting right here and you got it done!

"The administrative folks have spent a lot of time and effort over the years to make sure this happens, take a look around, you don't see many field like this many places, so that is part of the team as well. Add to that, we have a Board of Trustees who is highly, highly supportive of athletics so that helps make this happen as well. Add that to the mix with fans and our community support and you put that all together and what do you have – you not only have a national championship team, you have a national championship program at Eastern Florida State College and you have a national championship caliber athletic department and a college that meets that same goal, everything we do, we try to be the best in the country at and it has always been the goal and will continue to always be the goal and we are getting it done thanks to you guys."

The players were each recognized during the ceremony and received an Eastern Florida State College scarf. Then they watched videos from throughout the season and the postseason, ending with the team on the bus singing "We are the Champions" on the jumbotron at the Orlando Health Stadium on the Melbourne campus.

"This has been his vision since this soccer program was built, and I was hired here as the women's soccer coach. His vision was to build these kind of facilities, and celebrate national championships here. The credit goes to Dr. James Richey," Associate Vice President of Athletics Jeff Carr said. "They started the season in Utah and had a win and a tie that weekend, and we did not lose a game until the national tournament, but that loss to Rose State only motivated the team. As head coach Scott Carswell said, because of that loss, we won the national tournament! We are the No. 1 team in the country and are the national champions."

The players and coaches wrapped up the night by thanking the fans for coming out to the field one last time.
