Seven men's soccer players recognized by Region 8
Seven members of the Eastern Florida State College men's soccer team were named to the all-Region 8 teams.
The Titans, who finished 15-5-1 and reached the semifinals of the NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament, won the Region 8 title for the fifth time.
Sophomore defender Rhys Myers made the first team for the second straight season, while freshman defender Moussa Gueye and freshman midfielder Schimiliguen Castin were also named to the first team.
Freshman defender Marc Grifell, sophomore midfielder Troy LaRue Gonzalez, sophomore forward Jai-Zel Smith-DeShields and freshman goalkeeper Nour Moaoui made the second team. Moaoui finished with a program-best eight shutouts this season.
"It is nice to see our individual players recognized for their achievements this year, all are very deserving as well as many others who have sacrificed this year for our collective success," Eastern Florida State College men's soccer coach Oliver Twelvetrees said. "It is fantastic to see both Nour and Schimiliguen honored as true freshman from Florida High Schools. Incoming international recruits Moussa and Marc produced excellent performances in their first semester to earn these awards. Plus of course to our sophomores Rhys, Jai, Troy who showed exemplary leadership on an off the pitch, working hard over their two years here putting the team first and getting the rewards they deserved."
It is the second straight year the Titans have had seven players honored.
