Men's basketball team hosts TAAG in season opener Wednesday

The Eastern Florida State College men's basketball team will open the regular season on Wednesday night at Titan Field House.

The Titans are returning seven of the top 10 scorers from last season's team that finished with 18 wins in 23 games.

"I am extremely excited for the new season, extremely excited for Wednesday's season opener and extremely excited to coach these guys in a regular-season setting," Eastern Florida State College men's basketball coach Jeremy Shulman said. "They have been such a joy to coach throughout the fall and this will be a nice litmus test to see where we are after all the hard work the guys have put in during the fall season."

Sophomore Brody Boyer returns after starting every game last season and averaged eight points per game last season while Vlad Salaridze averaged seven points and six rebounds per game coming off the bench for most of the season.

Justin Reid, Lovre Zaja, Roberts Berze, Markus Harding and Rron Ukaj all had solid seasons last season for the Titans and will be key contributors again this season. Add in freshmen Reggie Hill, Brandon Garcia, Seal Osajivbe and Derrick Butler who have looked good in preseason games and the Titans have high expectations for the season.

"We are still a work in progress, but I think this is a special group," Shulman said. "I think fans will see a hard-working group that plays for each other. One that is improving every day and will be exciting to watch."

It begins Wednesday night against TAAG Academy at 7 p.m. at Titan Field House on the Melbourne campus. Admission is free to men's basketball games and the game will be shown live online at the EFSC Titans YouTube page.

The Titans will hit the road on Saturday afternoon, traveling to Miami to play ASA Miami at 3:30 p.m. before coming back to Titan Field House to host the Florida JUCO Shootout on Nov. 12-13.

Games at Titan Field House will be free for fans to attend and fans can also watch games on the EFSC Titans YouTube page.

"It is going to be a really exciting brand of basketball to watch," Shulman said. "When you get a chance to watch this many future Division I players and this many future pros on one court, its – well, to quote the great Justin Reid – it is the best show in town."
