Eastern Florida Men Cruise Past ASA Miami
After Eastern Florida's men's basketball team clinched its fourth straight FCSAA Southern Conference title on Feb. 6, head coach Jeremy Shulman maintained there was still much to play for in the form of regional and national rankings and a chance at an at-large national tournament bid if needed.
His players have responded with two straight strong performances, most recently Saturday with an efficient 96-62 conference victory over ASA Miami.
The victory at the Titan Field House on the Melbourne Campus raised Eastern Florida's conference record to 13-0 and its overall mark to 25-3.
"I am very pleased with our guys came out of the gate today," Shulman said. "I told them in the pregame that we needed a great start, and we really came out with unbelievable energy and execution. As I have said before this is a fun group to coach, and they continue to surprise me."
The game marked the fourth straight 20-plus point effort from Jackson.
The Titans led 51-26 at halftime.
Sophomore Djordje Beronja contributed 15 points and freshman Jalen Glover 14.
The Titans wrap up the home portion of their regular-season schedule by hosting Indian River State at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The game will be televised live on WEFS-TV and streamed at www.efsctitans.com/webcast
The Sophomore Night game will feature recognition of Beronja, Zavier Peart and B.J. Gladden.
Eastern Florida concludes the regular season at Miami Dade College in Kendall on Thursday and then begin preparations for its fourth straight NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Tournament appearance March 2-5 at the College of Central Florida in Ocala.
The Titans finished as tournament runner-up for the second time in three seasons in 2015 and earned their first national tournament berth since 2000.
This season just the regional champion will advance to the national tournament but four at-large bids will be awarded.
