
Baseball team hosts St. Petersburg Thursday on WEFS-TV
The Eastern Florida State College baseball team will be back at Bruce Bochy Field Thursday for a conference game that will be live on WEFS-TV.
The Titans, who are in the middle of a race for a postseason berth, will begin a three-game series with St. Petersburg College on Thursday evening. The game, which will be shown on WEFS-TV, will begin at 5 p.m.
Eastern Florida State College is 9-9 in the Citrus Conference and heads into the weekend tied for sixth place in the conference standings. Four teams are tied for second at 11-7 and the Titans are one of three teams 9-9 with 15 conference games remaining.
The Titans are coming off a big series win over Florida Southwestern State College and are looking to stay hot against St. Petersburg College, who has been struggling this season and are last in the conference standings heading into the series.
Sophomore Kevin Smith leads the state in stolen bases with 33 this season which is fourth in the nation. The centerfielder is hitting .322 this season as the leadoff hitter for the Titans and has stolen multiple bases in 11 games this season including a four stolen base game which tied a program record.
Smith has already eclipsed the program's record for stolen bases in a season and career.
Starting pitcher Owen Simmons will make his 10th start of the season on Thursday. Simmons has a 3.67 ERA with 46 strikeouts in 49 innings.
After Thursday's game, the series will head to St. Petersburg on Saturday for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
