Women's golf team in second place after two rounds in South Carolina

The Eastern Florida State College women's golf team is in second place after two rounds at the Monument Golf Oldfield event in Okatie, South Carolina.

The Titans shot the best round of the day in the afternoon, scoring a 298 in the second round and finished with a 611, seven strokes behind the leaders SCAD-Savannah.

Merrimack College is in third place with host South Carolina-Beaufort in fourth.

Freshman Sarah Knitter continued to play well for the Titans and is tied for fifth place overall. After a 77 in the morning session, Knitter hit an eagle on the 331-yard par 4 12th hole at the Oldfield Golf Club and finished with a 73. It was one of three eagles in the first two rounds.

She enters the final round behind the leader, Merrimack College's Prakruthi Sastry by four strokes.

Savannah Hawthorne is in eighth place overall after shooting a 73 in the morning round and then a 78 in the afternoon. Teammate Gracie Doke rebounded from a rough first round by shooting a 73 in the afternoon and is in 12th place with a 154.

Jasmine Yang is tied for 14th overall with a two-round total of 156 and Kira Shellman is in 58th overall.

Yang leads the tournament with seven birdies while Knitter is tied for second with five. Hawthorne is tied for the most pars with 26.

The Titans will tee off in the final round of the tournament Tuesday morning.
