Women's golf team is heading to the national tournament for the first time

For the first time in program history, the Eastern Florida State College women's golf team has qualified for the NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament.

The women's golf team was one of the five wild card teams announced on Wednesday and will play for a national title beginning May 9 at Mayfair Country Club in Sanford.

"The ladies golf team has put in the work, traveled throughout the south competing in college tournaments and have been knocking on the door for the past three years. All congratulations go out to them for believing we could compete and continue to grow while raising the competitive bar from the previous year," Eastern Florida State College women's golf coach Jamie Howell said. "A special thank you goes out to Coach (Jeff) Carr for the opportunity to grow and develop the team while representing Eastern Florida State College in all of our travels. It is a testament to the competitive environment instilled in all of us."

Eastern Florida State College finished third in the Southeast District Tournament that was held at Duran Golf Club and is ranked No. 6 in the latest Golfstat NJCAA Top 10 poll.

The Titans are in their sixth season and the program has improved each season. This season the team has finished second twice and seventh once in the three spring tournaments leading up to the postseason.

Earlier in the season the Titans played a tri-match at Mayfair Country Club and shot a 311 on the course that will now host the best junior college teams in the country.

The tournament will consist of 15 teams including Seminole State College is the two-time defending national champions and won the Southeast District tournament.
