Men's golf team leads National Preview tournament after two rounds

The Eastern Florida State College men's golf team leads the NJCAA Division I National Preview tournament after two rounds at Duran Golf Club in Viera.

The Titans shot a 294 in the morning session and then a 279 in the afternoon session to finish with a 573, 19 strokes ahead of Central Alabama and New Mexico Junior College.

Freshman Ben Ramos, playing in his first collegiate tournament, shot a 142 in the two rounds and is tied with teammate sophomore Beck Fox for the individual lead.

Josh Stern shot a 73 and 72 while Thomas Matthews rebounded with a 68 in the afternoon after a 78 in the first round. Chandler Dixon shot a 77 and then a 71 and sits at 148 after two rounds.

"Awesome second round by the guys in difficult conditions all day," Eastern Florida State College men's golf coach Jamie Howell said. "Good solid play by Beck and solid rounds by Stern and Ramos. Nice comeback by Matthews and Dixon in the afternoon. Looking for more of the same on Tuesday."

The white team also played well, shooting 604 as a team led by Tanner Gonzalez who shot a 146. Teammates Ryan McMillan shot a 150, Sean McGinty is at 154 and Josh Yang is at 154 with two 77s.

The final round of the tournament is scheduled for Tuesday morning at Duran Golf Club.
