Men's golf team shoots into top 10 at national tournament

The Eastern Florida State College men's golf team moved into the top 10 with a solid round in tough conditions at the NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament in Lubbock, Texas.

The Titans moved up four spots to No. 8 after a round of 293 which was one of the best rounds of the day.

Sophomore Fraser Davren led the way, shooting a 3-under 69 with seven birdies in the round.

"I think honestly I played similar to yesterday, I just cut down on the mistakes, I feel like over the past two days I have played well," Davren said. "The boys dug deep today and we are looking forward to the next two days to use what we have worked on all season and finish strong in this tournament."

Teammate Ryan Rozic, also a sophomore playing in his second national tournament, made birdies on Nos. 16 and 18 to finish at 2-under 70.

"I was just in better positions and had better looks for birdies and took advantage of those opportunities," Rozic said. "I feel pretty good and as a team we are still fighting for that title, 36 holes is still a lot of golf left so we just have to keep focusing on one shot at a time and take it from there."

Halfway through the tournament Davren is in 11th place overall while Rozic is tied for 12th. Teammates Beck Fox and Kyle Decenzo each shot 5-over 77 in the second round.

The Titans will tee off for round 3 around noon eastern time at the Rawls Course which is home to Texas Tech's golf team.
