Golf teams open spring season with home tournament

The Eastern Florida State College golf teams will open the spring season at home, hosting tournaments beginning Monday.

The men's team will host the Titan Invitational at Suntree Country Club with a shotgun start beginning at 8 a.m. The two-day tournament will host some of the top teams in the National Junior College Athletic Association as well as some NCAA Division II and NAIA teams.

The men's team is coming off a solid fall season and is looking to make another run at a national championship after finishing third in the NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament last season.

"The chemistry of the team this spring, I like what I have seen so far, I like the chatter and the energy that I see," Eastern Florida State College men's golf coach Jamie Howell said. "Suntree has been a traditional event for us, started before I got here and the colleges from out of town love coming. We have a good tournament every year."

The women's golf team will host the Lady Titan Invitational at Rockledge Country Club and will also be a shotgun start at 8 a.m. both Monday and Tuesday. Like the men's tournament, the women's tourney will feature teams from NJCAA Division I as well as NCAA Division II and NAIA teams.

"We are looking forward to both, but we will have our hands full," Howell said.
