Women's tennis team tops SCF Manatee
The Eastern Florida State College women's tennis team played well down the stretch to post a 5-4 victory over the State College of Florida Manatee Friday at Titan Tennis Center.
The Titans got off to a big start as the top two doubles teams posted victories. The duo of Vasali Ganesan and Tsveti Trifonova won the No. 1 doubles 8-6 in a match that was close throughout.
Then the No. 2 team of Valeria Arevalo and Emma Othmer came back from an early deficit, scoring the 8-4 win to give the Titans two points.
They would need it as SCF Manatee would tie the match 3-3 with three matches still n the court.
Arevalo gave the Titans the lead back, winning her No. 4 singles match 6-3, 6-2 leaving the Titans needing one more win for the match.
It came at No. 1 singles where Ganesan won the first set and was leading the second 4-1 only to have SCF Manatee's Zeba Jamal battle back to make it 5-4. Ganesan would win it 6-4 to give the Titans the win.
Eastern Florida State College will be back on the courts Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. in a regional match with Broward College. Admission is free.
