Women's soccer team defeats Laramie County CC
The No. 1-ranked Eastern Florida State College women's soccer team improved to 3-0 Monday with a 2-1 victory over No. 16 Laramie County Community College in Wyoming.
The Titans, who are the defending national champions, scored twice in the second half as freshmen Samira Roper and Morgan Gamin each scored to help the Titans post the victory.
After a scoreless first half, Lena Stevens crosses a ball and Samira Roper gets her head on it, burying it in the corner to give the Titans a 1-0 lead.
Laramie County Community College would tie the game with 11:44 remaining but the Titans would respond once again.
Kailey Dunne takes a shot from the left side and the ball gets free in front of the net where a running Morgan Gamin buries it to give the Titans a 2-1 lead.
Eastern Florida State College would continue to pressure the Laramie defense throughout the second half.
The Titans defense was up to the challenge whenever Laramie did get a break. Freshman goalkeeper Chloe Adams made several nice saves in the contest and kept Laramie in check for the final 15 minutes. Adams finished with five saves in the game.
Eastern Florida State College will host Southwestern Illinois at 7 p.m. Saturday at Orlando Health Stadium. Admission to Orando Health Stadium is free and Saturday night's game will be shown live on WEFS-TV, which is channel 9 or 455 on Spectrum, 68 on DirecTV, 30 on Dish and 68 on AT&T Uverse.
