The Eastern Florida State College women's soccer team opened the regular season with an overtime loss in a battle of top four teams in the country Thursday afternoon in Herriman, Utah.
No. 4 Snow College scored with five minutes left in the first overtime to beat the No. 3-ranked Titans 2-1 at Zion Bank Stadium.
Down 1-0 at halftime, the Titans seemed to pick up the pace and had a couple of good scoring chances but with 11 minutes and 14 seconds left in the match a penalty in the box gave the Titans a penalty kick. Sophomore Paula Garrido was up to the task, putting it into the back of the net to knot the game 1-1.
Both teams would press to get the lead back in the final 10 minutes, but the buzzer sounded, sending the matchup into overtime.
Eastern Florida State College (0-1) will be back at Zion Bank Stadium on Saturday to play No. 2 Salt Lake City Community College at 1:30 p.m. in a rematch from last season's national tournament semifinals.
