The Eastern Florida State College women's soccer team opened Pool C with a convincing victory over CCBC Essex in the final game of Day 1 of the NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament.
The Titans scored three times in the first half and added two more in the second half to score the 5-0 victory at Orlando Health Stadium on the Melbourne campus of Eastern Florida State College.
"We played sloppy I the first half, we didn't come out very focused but settled down and stopped making mistakes," Eastern Florida State College women's soccer coach Jeff Carr said.
Freshman Julieta Limardo got behind the line and then beat the goalkeeper and tucked it into the net with 27 minutes and 35 seconds left in the first half and then scored her second goal of the night and XX of the year less than 10 minutes later with a nice chip shot.
"I just went for it, I didn't really think I just got past the goalie and scored – it was exciting, my first goal in national tournament," Limardo said. "It's nice, we are a good team so to get this win is a good start."
Freshman Paula Garrido would make it 3-0 with under 10 minutes left in the first half. Teammates Francesca Espinoza and Morgan Miller would also score for the Titans who improved to 15-0 on the season.
The Titans will play Gillette College at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday while Gillette College will face CCBC Essex at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
"We are going to have our hands full against Gillette, they are a hard-working team and we will have to be better than we were tonight," Carr said.
