Women's soccer team shuts out Daytona State
The Eastern Florida State College women's soccer team scored three times in the second half to defeat No. 7-ranked Daytona State College 3-0 Wednesday night at Titan Soccer Complex.
The third-ranked Titans improved to 2-0 in the Region 8 Conference and are 4-0 overall with the win.
Sophomore JJ Bryant broke the scoreless tie in the 51st minute when she placed a free kick into the upper part of the net. It was Bryant's first goal of the season for the Titans.
Freshman Viena Marsalle broke free and passed to Morgan Miller who went back to Marsalle in front of the net and the forward put it past the goalkeeper to make it 2-0.
Less than two minutes later Marsalle once again ran down a ball and beat the goalkeeper to make it 3-0.
"We had a lot of chances in the first half and didn't capitalize and that was one of our concerns at half. We had to execute our chances better and fortunately we got a few in and we felt pretty good once we got the third one but not until then," Eastern Florida State College women's soccer coach Jeff Carr said. "It's a huge rivalry game. Brittany (Jones) is a heck of a coach and Daytona is a heck of a team. The girls who played tonight had a heck of a game, but we have another tough battle this Saturday against ASA Miami."
While the offense found its rhythm in the second half, the defense once again made it hard on the opposing team, recording its fourth straight clean sheet to start the season.
The Titans will host ASA Miami in a Region 8 Conference match Saturday at 5 p.m. and admission to Titan Soccer Complex is free.
"We have watched them play, they are a good team with some special players," Carr said. "Dave (Luna) has done a tremendous job with that program and we will have our hands full."
