EFSC's Gards, Garriga named All-Americans by United Soccer Coaches Association
Eastern Florida State College women's soccer players Beatrice Gards and Cristina Garriga were named All-Americans by the United Soccer Coaches Association.
Gards was named to the first team after leading the Titans defense to NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament semifinals, ranking 20th in the nation in goals allowed, averaging 0.94 goals allowed per game. The freshman defender from Borlange, Sweden started all 20 games and scored a goal and had an assist while helping the Titans record eight shutouts.
Garriga was named to the second team after helping the Titans to the semifinals of the NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament. The sophomore from Barcelona, Spain scored a tournament-best four goals in the national tournament and finished the season with 15 goals and 11 assists. Garriga was also named to NJCAA Division I Second Team All-American and was the Region 8 Player of the Year earlier this season.
The women's soccer staff was also named the Women's South Region Staff of the Year in the NJCAA Division I as voted on by coaches. The award presentation will take place at the College Coaches Reception during the Convention in Chicago on Jan. 10, 2019.
