Women's golf team places 10th at World Golf Invitational

Women's golf team places 10th at World Golf Invitational

The Eastern Florida State College women's golf team finished 10th overall in the World Golf Invitational Tuesday in St. Augustine.

The Titans shot a 303 in the final round for a three-round total of 915 in a tournament filled with NCAA Division II teams.

Freshman Sarah Knitter tied for fourth place overall with University of Tampa's Ana Maria Jimenez Rios who both finished at 1-under for the tournament. Knitter shot a 74 in the final round on Tuesday. For the tournament Knitter was 3-under on the par 3s and 4-under on the par 5s as she had 12 birdies in the tournament, which is tied for the most in the tournament.

Morela Boyd shot an 80 in the final round to tie for 53rd while Gabrielle Fernandez shot a 75 to tie for 55th overall. Savannah Hawthorne shot an 81 and Gracie Doke had her best round of the tournament, shooting a 74 in the final round.

Hawthorne was one of eight player to have an eagle in the tournament.

Nova Southeastern, who is ranked fourth in the GolfStat NCAA Division II national poll, won the event by shooting 2-over par for the tournament. Rollins College finished second and the University of Tampa was third. Nova Southeastern's Olivia Gronborg shot a 70 for the second straight round to win the individual title at 7-under.

The women's golf team moved up to No. 4 in the latest GolfStat NJCAA national poll. Eastern Florida State College will travel to Valdosta, Georgia Feb. 20-21 for the Dalton State Kinderlou Forest Invitational
