EFSC women's golf team ready for Region 5 Championships at Duran Golf Club

The Eastern Florida State College women's golf team will host the District 5 Championship at Duran Golf Club on Monday and Tuesday.

The tournament will tee off at 9:30 a.m. on Monday morning and will feature five teams and several individual players that are trying to qualify for the NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament that will be played at Mayfair Country Club in Sanford, FL.

"It's a tournament and they know that two teams are going to the national tournament and we would have to play really well to catch a Seminole State or a Daytona State, but that is why you play" Eastern Florida State College women's golf coach Jamie Howell said. "If we take care of our own business, get to the tee and make them watch you and you never know what might happen."

Seminole State comes into the tournament ranked No. 1 in the latest GolfStat Division I Women's Golf poll and have three top five finishes this season. Daytona State College is No. 2 in the latest poll, while the Titans are No. 6 in the poll.

"The top players have somewhat separated a bit, but we are still looking for some to step up because we have the ability to substitute this season. Gabby Fernandez has come miles and it is cool to see. Savannah Hawthorne's game has come around, Delia has had some good rounds and that top three is going to be really good," Howell said. "It will be good to have Morela back in the line-up and proud of all the hard work Jasmine Yang puts into her game as it paid off having her qualify for this tournament."

The Titans have had two second-place finishes this spring and have been pretty consistent much of the season.

"It makes it more special playing on our home course, we get to have family members come and watch us," sophomore Delia Timpy said. "We just have to clean up the basics. We have a strong group this year and it is exciting to see how much we have progressed. We are right there."

The final round is scheduled for Tuesday at 8 a.m.
