The Eastern Florida State College softball team lost a pair of Citrus Conference games Monday evening at Titan Softball Complex.
The 17th ranked Titans head into the final doubleheader of the season on the road Tuesday and are tied for fifth in the conference standings at 21-17. The top five advance to the state tournament with sixth place team playing in a Division I Play-in Game.
On Monday, Eastern Florida State College lost to No. 3 Indian River State College 10-3 and then fell short 5-4 in the second game.
Indian River State College, who is 32-8 in the conference, scored six times in the third inning and rolled to victory. The Titans scored all three of their runs in the bottom of the third inning as Martha Jones singled and scored as did Emma George. Aracelis Jimenez reached on an error and also scored in the inning.
In Game 2, Avery Velazquez and J'Dah Girgorie matched up and it was just 2-0 The River after five innings.
But the Titans struck in the bottom of the sixth inning as Jimenez led off with a single, then Isabel Otero walked and Avery Velazquez singled to load the bases. Jessica Merk stepped up and hit a two-run double and then Velazquez scored on Ashley Grieser's groundout to take the lead. An RBI single by Emma George gave the Titans a 4-2 lead.
After two quick outs in the top of the seventh, Indian River State College took advantage of a wild pitch and an error to put runners on second and third. Kassidy Pontbriant tied the game with a two-run single and took the lead on Thaima Maximiliana's RBI double.
Eastern Florida State College will head to Hillsborough Community College for a conference doubleheader Tuesday to wrap up the regular season. The first game will begin in the fourth inning with the Titans leading 5-2. The games will be played at a field at 11000 N 50th Street in Tampa. With a pair of wins the Titans will advance to the FCSAA Division I Softball Tournament in Clearwater.
