Softball team earns split with Seminole State College
The Eastern Florida State College softball team earned a split with seventh-ranked Seminole State College Tuesday evening at Titan Softball Complex.
The Titans, who are now 19-13 in the Citrus Conference, lost the first game 7-5 and then had a walk-off win in the second game 7-6.
Freshman Jessica Camacho gave the Titans a lead in the first game, hitting a grand slam home run in the second inning. It was Camacho's first home run of the season and gave the Titans a 4-0 lead.
But a 5-1 lead would disappear as Seminole State College would score four times in the fourth inning to tie the game. Julianna Nieves got things started with a two-run home run and then Mia Terito would hit a two-run home run later in the inning.
It would remain tied until the top of the seventh inning when Izabell LaRoche hit a two-run home run to give the Raiders a lead.
Makayla Nieves also hit a home run in the first game for the Raiders.
In Game 2, Seminole State took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning but the Titans would cut it in half as Avery Velazquez hit an RBI single.
The Titans would take the lead in the fifth inning as Camacho led off with a double and scored Isabel Otero's RBI single. Velazquez would drive in Aracelis Jimenez with a single and the Titans had a 3-2 lead. Jessica Merk would score to make it 4-2.
It would not last long as the Raiders would tie it in the top of the sixth inning, as some errors led to four runs and a Seminole State lead. Eastern Florida State College would tie the game in the bottom of the sixth inning as Martha Jones singled and scored on Isabel Otero's RBI single. Otero would later score on Jessica Merk's single to tie the game.
Ashley Grieser would double in the bottom of the seventh and advance to third on a Jones sacrifice bunt bringing up Camacho. Camacho hit a single over the shortstop's reach to score Grieser with the winning run.
The Titans will hit the road on Thursday for a conference doubleheader at Hillsborough Community College beginning at 4 p.m. It is the first of three straight road conference doubleheaders for the Titans.
