The Eastern Florida State College softball team earned a split with St. Johns River State College Thursday afternoon at Titan Softball Complex.
The Titans lost the first game 12-4 but bounced back for a 2-0 victory in Game 2 to earn their fifth win of the season.
In the first game, the Titans struggled to get outs early as St. Johns River State College scored eight times in the first two innings.
Eastern Florida State College scored in the bottom of the first as Makenzie Fore led off with a walk and scored on Trinity Howard's double. They would score twice in the second inning as both Ava Bassani and Faith Campos each singled and would later score.
Down 8-3, Destiny Lake came into the game in the second inning and held the Vikings offense in check until the seventh inning.
In Game 2, Mandy Hedetniemi-Taylor had one of her best start of the season allowing two hits and struck out six in a complete game shutout.
Offensively, the Titans got off to a fast start in Game 2 scoring twice in the bottom of the first inning as Makenzie Fore and Rachel Lamoureaux each scored.
From there it was all Hedetniemi-Taylor whose six strikeouts is a season high for the sophomore. In the top of the seventh inning Hedetniemi-Taylor walked the first two batters but recorded the next three outs to pick up the win for the Titans.
Eastern Florida State College will host Daytona State College Saturday with the doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. The Titans and Falcons split a doubleheader earlier this season at Daytona State College.
