Men's tennis team playing in two consolation finals at national tournament

Eastern Florida State College sophomore Fabricio Galvan will be playing in the consolation finals in both singles and doubles on Friday at the NJCAA Division I Men's Tennis National Championship Tournament in Tucson, Arizona.

It is the first time in program history a player has made it to the final day of the tournament.

Galvan, who lost in the first round of the main draw at No. 4 singles, has battled his way into the championship match where he will face Seward's Sander Jans who started the tournament as the No. 2 seed in No 4 singles.

The sophomore from Mexico defeated Harford's John Brett in the semifinals in a third-set tiebreaker after splitting the first two sets. Galvan won the tiebreaker 10-5.

Galvan will team with Sebastian Bunster in the consolation final of No. 3 doubles after defeating Harford's Bruno Brocanelli and Finlay Rowan 7-5, 6-2 in the semifinal.

Galvan and Bunster will play Hinds' Eric Holmes and Drew Rexrode in the final at 11 a.m. at the Reffkin Tennis Center.

Adriel Azucey (No. 3 singles), Bunster (No. 5 singles), Nicholas Mora (No. 6 singles) made the semifinals of the main draw in their flights along with the No. 1 doubles team of Azucey and Frederik Oervad as well as the No. 2 doubles team of Nils Michel and Mora.

"A challenging and fun day for the Titans. We battled but came up short in the semifinals against the best in junior college tennis," Eastern Florida State College assistant coach Brandon Stokes said. "Now we compete for the title in the consolation bracket on the final day of the championships. This is another program milestone. The boys are pumped and ready to finish the season with Titan pride."

The team heads into the final day in the top five in the overall standings.
