Men's soccer team shuts out Daytona State
The Eastern Florida State College men's soccer team defeated Daytona State College Wednesday night in a Region 8 Conference match at Orlando Health Stadium on the Melbourne campus.
The Titans picked up the 4-0 win to improve to 10-1-1 overall and 4-0-1 in the conference. The shutout was the eighth of the season for the Titans who have an eight-game unbeaten streak.
"It was a solid performance tonight, good to get the clean sheet. Nour (Moaoui) was fantastic again and it is nice to score four goals at home," Eastern Florida State College men's soccer coach Oliver Twelvetrees said.
Sophomore Levonte Johnson took the ball deep into the box outside the corner of the net, sent a ball in front and freshman Hugo Catherine put it in for his first goal of the season.
A little more than five minutes later Johnson would score to make it 2-0 in the first half.
Johnson would make it 3-0 halfway through the second half and 12 minutes later Afolabi Soyemi Olade scored to make it 4-0.
"Johnson has worked hard this last week to get his confidence back and you could tell, he was really, really good tonight," Twelvetrees said. "It was good to see him firing on all cylinders again like he was at the beginning of the season."
Sophomore goalkeeper Nour Moaoui made some big saves to record his seventh shutout of the season. Daytona State College played a man down for most of the game after a player received a red card eight minutes into the game for running into Moaoui.
The Titans will play for a Region 8 Conference title next Wednesday night against Broward College at Orlando Health Stadium. It will also be Sophomore Night for the men's soccer team who will honor the 11 sophomores after the game.
"We have to improve. There is no doubt about it, we have to improve in the final third and we have to work on the little details," Twelvetrees said. "We got the job done tonight and did some good things but we have to improve. Broward is a very good team, the first game was 1-1 and could have gone either way so we need to improve going into next week's game that will decide the regular season champion."
