Men's soccer team shuts out Harford in season opener

The Eastern Florida State College men's soccer team came out fast in the season opener Saturday afternoon in Baltimore, Maryland.

The Titans were the home team on the scoreboard and made themselves right at home, scoring three times in the first 30 minutes and went on to post the 13-0 victory over Harford Community College.

Freshman Schimiliguen Castin scored two of the first three goals of the day as the Titans went into halftime leading 3-0.

Aedon Kyra scored nine minutes into the second half and 20 seconds later Jimmy Mwanga scored his first of two goals of the season.

Up 5-0, the Titans were not done as Caleb Young scored twice in the second half and Perrie Nascimento also found the back of the net for Eastern Florida State College. Already up 8-0, Abdul Ganiyu Iddrisu scored on a penalty kick with 11 minutes remaining.

Freshman Uziel Hernandez scored twice and Jai-Zel Smith-DeShields would also score in the final 10 minutes of the game.

The 13 goals were the most goals scored by the men's soccer program since 2014 when they defeated Andrew 15-0. It is the fifth time in the past six seasons that the Titans have scored 10 or more goals in a game.

"It's a very positive start to the season and it was great to see so many of our payers get off the mark and a clean sheet to start the season for our defense," Eastern Florida State College men's soccer coach Oliver Twelvetrees said.

The Titans, who began the season No. 5 in the NJCAA Division I preseason rankings, will play the host and No. 15 CCBC Essex at 2 p.m. on Sunday. CCBC Essex lost to Monroe College on Saturday.
