Golf coach Jamie Howell recognized for outstanding service

Eastern Florida State College golf coach Jamie Howell was recognized for his outstanding service during the Board of Trustees meeting Tuesday morning on the Melbourne campus.

Howell is in his 18th season with the Titans and in that time, he has achieved an unprecedented 48 golf tournament wins. His guidance and mentorship have resulted in 27 student athletes being selected as All-Americans. Three of those players have gone on to win NJCAA national titles.

"Coach Jamie Howell has made a real difference in the lives of hundreds of our student athletes in his almost two decades of dedicated service to our College. Coach Howell sets the example as a leader and a person we can all look up to as someone who makes student success the main objective," Vice President for External Affairs Jack Parker said. "No one is more deserving of being recognized for outstanding service to our students and our college than Coach Jamie Howell."

In 2019 Howell was named the Labron Harris Sr. Award which is given to the college or high school coach and Class A PGA Professional whose support of the game through teaching, coaching and involvement in the community has helped ensure the continued growth of the game of golf and who represents the finest qualities the game has to offer.

Howell was also inducted into the NJCAA Hall of Fame in 2019.

"It's because of our team. You get awards like this because of your team, I don't do any of this by myself and I can't do it without them," Howell said. "It is more than generous of the college to recognize me and I appreciate the board taking the time to recognize me."

Howell's golf teams are beginning the spring season with both teams ranked in the preseason national polls.

"Jamie is very deserving of this honor. He has contributed so much to the school through the golf program and the many community service projects that he has spearheaded," Eastern Florida State College Associate Vice President of Athletics Jeff Carr said. "We are very fortunate to have part of our community and staff."
