Drew Cavanaugh named NJCAA Division I co-Defensive Player of the Year

Eastern Florida State College baseball player Drew Cavanaugh was named the NJCAA Division I co-Defensive Player of the Year on Wednesday.

The catcher from Rochester Hills, Michigan did not make an error behind the plate this season, starting 37 games for the Titans. Cavanaugh finished with 257 putouts for a 1.000 fielding percentage. The sophomore also threw out 22 runners which is first in the state and fifth in the nation.

Cavanaugh finished the season throwing out 66 percent of those runners which is the best among starting catchers in both the state and nation.

"Drew is an unbelievable player when it comes to his work ethic on the field. Not only was he a team leader, he was a role model for everyone which made him special and what ed to a special season for him," Eastern Florida State College baseball coach Steven Brown said. "He trains at 150 percent which is why the game slows down for him. I'm very proud of Drew and his accomplishment on the field!"

He was named the NJCAA Division I Baseball ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove award winner last week and also was named to the second team All-State team and was the Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Year.

Cavanaugh shares the Defensive Player of the Year award with Polk State College's Dakota Harris.
