Baseball team falls in season opener

St. Johns River State College
The Eastern Florida State College baseball team fell to St. Johns River State College in the home opener Friday night at Bruce Bochy Field.
The Titans lost 8-2 in the season opener and will travel to St. Johns River Saturday for a 3 p.m. game.
On Friday night the Vikings jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the first inning highlighted by a three-run home run by Chase Sanguinetti. But the Titans would get on the board in the bottom of the third inning on RBI singles from Alejandro Rodriguez and Connor Leary cut the lead to 4-2.
Chase Victor gave up a double to lead off the fifth inning but bounced back with three straight strikeouts. He finished with five strikeouts in 2 2/3 innings of relief but gave up two runs in the sixth inning. Jackson Woodward came into the game in to get the final out of the sixth inning and struck out the side in the seventh inning.
The Vikings would score two more times in the eighth inning to take an 8-2 lead.
Rodriguez, Kyle Dentmon and Tyler Isenberg each had two hits in the game.
The Titans will travel to St. Johns River State College on Saturday at 3 p.m. with Darien Smith getting the start for the Titans. Then on Monday they travel to Hillsborough Community College on Monday before hosting Hillsborough on Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Bruce Bochy Field.
