Cowley College shuts out Montgomery College

Cowley College opened the NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament with a shutout against Montgomery College Monday morning at Orlando Health Stadium in Melbourne, Florida.

The Tigers, who are the No. 8 seed, eliminated Montgomery College with the 3-0 victory.

Forward Caique Trivelato scored a hat trick for the Tigers to pace the offense as the two-time offensive player of the year in his conference scored with 4:15 eft in the first half and then three minutes into the second half he added his second goal. The final of the day for Trivelato came with 37:17 remaining in the game.

“He is a big-game player, he always delivers in the clutch. He is the two-time offensive player of the year in our conference and that is what we expect,” Cowley College men’s soccer coach Ruy Vaz said. “I appreciate his work today.”

Meanwhile the Cowley defense was up to the task, posting a shutout in their first game of Pool A. Goalkeeper Rafael Furlani stopped two shots.

“It was good to get the clean sheet, good to use a good rotation and use more players. Obviously, Montgomery was tired and we had fresh legs but I feel like we controlled the game well,” Vas said. “I am very happy with how the game went today.”

Montgomery College finishes the season 16-4.

Cowley College will play No. 1 seed Daytona State College Tuesday at 10 a.m. for a spot in the national tournament semifinals.
